EHS guard commits to Indiana St.
Devonte Brown may not be old enough to remember the career of Larry Bird, but he can certainly appreciate where he came from.
The versatile Ellison combo guard verbally committed to Indiana State University — Bird's alma mater — during an official visit to the school on Sunday.
"Just knowing somebody from the NBA — one of the greatest of all time — played at that college," Brown said via cell Sunday evening. "He's top-10 all time and I'm just a kid from Killeen, Texas, and they offered me (a scholarship).
"They must see a lot of potential in me."
A self-professed "momma's boy," Brown said he felt an instant connection to both the team and the school. That connection was solidified when he got a chance to play a simulated game with several of the Sycamore players.
"When I stepped on the court, I felt chemistry," Brown said. "As soon as I put my feet on the court, I just loved every minute of it."
His commitment came on the first of five official visits he had scheduled, choosing the Sycamores over offers from other Division I programs such as Arkansas-Little Rock, Central Connecticut, Long Island University and Stephen F. Austin.
