COPPERAS COVE — Nearly all of the talk leading up to Friday's meeting between Copperas Cove and Southlake Carroll surrounding Carroll's quarterback situation.
Maybe everyone should have been talking to Cove quarterback Orlando Thomas.
Or at least the Bulldawg rushing attack.
Cove's defense came up with three opportunistic turnovers, the offense ran for 380 yards and the Dawgs knocked off Carroll 35-14 at Bulldawg Stadium.
Run over no longer, Michael Cummings and the Roos' seniors embark on their final season with at least one milestone achieved: beat Ellison.
Cummings threw two touchdowns and ran for one and Killeen's defense, porous against Ellison the last two seasons, protected Killeen's late lead and held on for a 28-25 win in the season-opener for both teams Friday night at Leo Buckley Stadium.
Jaquail Haskins led Killeen with 74 rushing yards, including the 8-yard go-ahead score with 6:23 left in the fourth.
