At Gatesville, after a 25-point loss to the top-ranked Pirates after the first meeting, the Hornets had four players score at least 10 points but still came up short of the upset.
D.D. Marshall led with 15 points and Tobias Moore, Danny Byrd and Marqueese Phillips all added 10 for Gatesville (19-10, 3-4 19-3A).
The Hornets trailed undefeated La Vega just 54-51 after the third quarter but were outscored 14-6 in the fourth.
