The Copperas Cove football team has had an enormous amount of success recently, both on the gridiron and off. While the Bulldawgs were bi-district 12-5A champions on the field, Robert Griffin III won the Heisman for Baylor and Charles Tillman had a career year for the Chicago Bears, making the Pro Bowl.

And on Wednesday, the Bulldawgs sent their fifth straight featured running back to a Division I school when Brandon Hamilton signed with Rice. Hamilton is the latest, but Donald Buckram was the first in that line.

The Herald caught up with Copperas Cove all-time leader in rushing yards at the Bulldawgs' signing day.

What was the reason the Cleveland Browns gave for cutting you?

"The Browns cut me because I tore my meniscus and needed surgery in December."

Are there any other NFL teams showing interest?

"I tried out with the (New York) Giants and was short-listed because of the roster being full. I'm kind of waiting on them to get back to me."

What about other options? Have you tried different leagues?

"I worked out for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and that's looking good, it's between me and Vondrell McGee."

What about the United Football League?

"The UFL isn't really an option because they only have four teams. Besides, the league isn't really stable financially and may not even have a season."

How does it feel not getting the chance to show what you can do?

"It's been hard with all the other NFL teams shying away from me because of the injury. It's a long road, but I'm trying."
