Grace Weaver dominated nearly every time she stepped on the volleyball court.
So after sharing the District 12-5A most valuable player award last season, the senior outside hitter took the district's top honor by herself this year.
Weaver finished the season with 526 kills, 443 digs and 41 aces for the Lady Tigers. She led Belton to a runner-up finish in district, a 22-18 record after starting the season 0-6 and a second-round playoff appearance.
"I am glad that I was well respected in the district," Weaver said. "It is a good way to leave on."
Belton beat Tyler Lee in the bi-district round before falling to Richardson Lake Highlands in the area round last Friday.
"She was a huge point scorer for us," said Belton coach Justeen Coulson. "... She contributed a lot to our team scoring in all aspects of the game and not just hitting."
Copperas Cove junior Amy Rosenbaum was named the district's most valuable setter for the second year in a row, doing so after doing it all for the Lady Bulldawgs this season. She had a team-high 634 assists, while also registering 258 kills, 167 blocks, 103 digs and 100 aces. The future Baylor Lady Bear helped Cove reach the playoffs for the fifth straight season.
Four area players were named to the first team.
They were Belton setter Brooke Malcik, who finished the season with 831 assists, Cove outside hitter Alex Chace led the Lady Bulldawgs with 546 digs to go with 389 kills, Harker Heights senior Bianca Patterson, who signed with Navarro College on Wednesday, set a Lady Knights record with 260 kills and Ellison middle blocker Chelsea Grant.
A&M Consolidated, the 12-5A champion, earned three of the district superlatives. Senior Erika Arthur was named most valuable hitter,
Jacqueline Roddy was newcomer of the year and Cydrive McMillian was tabbed as coach of the year.
Bryan sophomore Brittany Little was named defensive player of the year.
