After giving up nearly 400 yards of total offense and 42 points to A&M Consolidated in the first half alone, the Belton defense only allowed 184 and 14 in the second half.
After pulling within two scores, 49-35, with 4:25 left in the third quarter, Belton held A&M to only two runs of five yards or more on its ensuing series, eventually stopping senior tailback Clinton Banks for no gain on a fourth-and-6 situation.
The Tigers then had their 17-play, 81-yard scoring drive that ate up nearly six minutes off the clock as senior quarterback David Ash's three-yard touchdown run pulled Belton within 49-42.
But Consolidated went back to the ground and rolled up an 11-play scoring drive, including an 11-yard touchdown run by Chris Nutall.
